We wish to advise parishioners that Shanbally Church will be closed from after our Sunday Mass this Sunday 11th November until Mass next Sunday morning, 18th November to facilitate the laying of a new floor in the area underneath the Church benches. The contractor for the works is Natural Stone Carpets which specialise in a flooring that is clean, durable and easy to maintain. The Victorian tiles on the main aisle of the Church and at the front of the altar are being retained and will undergo cleaning and polishing as part of the project.  We are grateful to those who have offered to help us to move the benches to facilitate the works and to Shamrocks GAA who have kindly offered us a secure place in which to store them for the coming week. If you are able to give us an hour of your time at 2.00 p.m. this Sunday afternoon, 11th November, we would greatly appreciate your support.  Many hands make for light work!

Please note that the 7.00 p.m. Mass usually celebrated on Friday night in Shanbally Church will be celebrated in Ringaskiddy Oratory this Friday 16th November.

For some it is a moment of discovery.  For most, it is a growing awareness that develops over time. For all, it is a moment in time when an internal stirring suggests the next step forward towards a clearer focus on “God’s call in my life.” It is not necessarily a call to priesthood, but a call to consider the possibility.

The National Vocations Office is organising a “Come and See” exploring priesthood retreat for Catholic men aged between 18 and 40, to meet priests and seminarians, to hear about how they heard their call, how they discerned what God was asking of them and what is involved being a priest and of seminary formation. It will provide an opportunity to share with others who are also at the early stages of exploring whether they have a vocation to diocesan priesthood.  The retreat will take place in Mount St Anne’s, a beautiful retreat and conference centre located in Killenard, near Portarlington, beginning at 6.00 p.m. on Friday 23rd November and will conclude on Saturday 24th at 4.00 p.m. The cost of the retreat is being subsidised by each diocese. Participants are asked to make a contribution of €30 toward the cost of provision of overnight accommodation and meals. For more information, please contact the National Vocations Office at 01-5053118 or This email address is being protected from spambots. CHASE, The Cork Harbour Alliance for a Safe Environment, will hold an Art Exhibition and Sale in the Carrigaline Court Hotel on Thursday 29th November 2018 with the sale beginning at 6.30 p.m. Free entry and Wine and Cheese reception. A raffle will also take place for a painting donated by respected artist Tom Browne. All proceeds will go to fund CHASE’s ongoing legal battle to oppose the building of an incinerator in Ringaskiddy.

The Harbour Call Care Ring are launching their befriending phone service on Friday 23rd November in the PACE Centre, Passage West from 9.00 a.m.  Feel free to drop in for a coffee and a chat and to meet our volunteers.  The Care-Ring is an initiative that grew out of discussions at the Parish Assembly.  It seeks to provide an outreach phone service to connect with those who are elderly and living alone in our community.

A Special Collection will be taken up at all Masses next weekend, 17th/18th November, to help the various Marriage Support & Counselling Services provided by the diocese.

Next year will mark the Bi-Centenary of the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Shanbally. As part of our preparations a new floor will be laid in the Church on the week starting Monday 12th November 2018. Due to the works being undertaken that week the Church will be closed and unavailable from Monday 12th to Saturday 17th November.  The contractor has assured us that the works will be completed in time for Sunday Mass on Sunday 18th November.

To lay the new flooring requires that all the Church benches be removed for the duration of the works.  We are looking for volunteers who would be willing to help us for a couple of hours at 2.00 p.m. next Sunday afternoon, 11th November 2018, to remove the benches and store than locally and again on Saturday afternoon, 17th November, to return the benches to the Church.  If you are willing to help us please text or phone Fr Sean at 087-2151894.  Your help would be greatly appreciated.                                                  Fr Seán
