For the past several decades, each year on Gaudete Sunday, the Third Sunday of Advent, children (and adults) bring their Baby Jesus figures from the crib in their homes to St. Peter’s Square in Rome where the Pope blesses both the people and the figurines during the Angelus. This tradition is known as ‘Bambinelli Sunday.’

This year we will celebrate “Bambinelli Sunday” at all Masses in our parish on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th December.  All are invited to bring the Baby Jesus figure from their crib at homes to Mass that weekend to be blessed.  Following the blessing, the tradition is that the family takes their “bambinelli” home and place it in a gift box or wrap it and save it for Christmas morning when it is the first gift to be opened. One of the younger members of the family then places your Baby Jesus figure in the crib.
