Bambinelli Sunday: 15th / 16th December.

For several years now, on  the Third Sunday of Advent, children [and adults!!] bring their Baby Jesus figures from the crib in their homes to St. Peter’s Square in Rome where the Pope blesses both the people and the figurines in a tradition known as ‘Bambinelli Sunday.’

Last year we celebrated  “Bambinelli Sunday” here in our parish for the first time and many people have asked that the tradition be continued.  This year we will celebrate it here in the Harbour Parishes on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th December.  All are invited to bring the Baby Jesus figure from their crib at homes to Mass to be blessed.  Following the blessing, the tradition is that the family takes their “bambinelli” home and place it in a gift box or wrap it and save it for Christmas morning when it is the first gift to be opened. One of the younger members of the family then places your Baby Jesus figure in the crib. This simple tradition is a very engaging way of helping children to appreciate the place of Jesus in our Christmas celebrations.
